Lonza taps Siegfried leader Wolfgang Wienand as new CEO

Lonza named Wolfgang Wienand as its new CEO on Tuesday morning, replacing interim leader Albert Baehny this summer.

Wienand has been with the CDMO Siegfried for almost 14 years, including five years as CEO. Prior to Siegfried, he held senior positions at the German chemicals company Evonik Industries.

“With his proven leadership capabilities, Wolfgang is ideally placed to act as an ambassador for our business and lead our colleague community as Lonza enters the next chapter of its growth journey,” Baehny said in a statement.

Lonza’s leadership hunt started in September, when it announced the departure of former CEO Pierre-Alain Ruffieux. Baehny filled in as interim CEO, but will retire after the transition period in the next few months. Baehny will also be replaced by Jean-Marc Huët, currently chairman of Heineken, as Lonza’s chairman.
