Summary

We are seeking a Virology Scientist with experience in cell based assays and virus propagation.  This candidate would be responsible for performing a variety of viral assays employing imaging, molecular and immunological techniques. Representative projects include: antiviral assays, virus growth and purification, and virus titration assays.  Experience with different virus and cell systems including respiratory viruses in primary cells is preferred.

This position would be ideal for a current postdoc or PhD student in a relevant field who has recent hands on experience with the techniques involved.

Essential duties

  • Design and perform cell based assays including cytopathic effects (CPE), virus titration by TCID50, viral plaque assays, and qPCR, in a BSL-2 laboratory setting.
  • Culture mammalian cells including primary cells and cell lines.
  • Virus propagation and purification.
  • Prepare reports with assay data.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in virology, cell/molecular biology, and assay development.

Desired qualifications

  • Experience working with viruses and mammalian cell culture.
  • Experience with microscopy, flow cytometry, plate readers, etc.
  • BSL-2 or BSL-3 research experience.
  • (preferred) Certified Biosafety Professional (CBSP) or Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) from the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA).
